Dr. Mitchell Abrams

CEO and Founder, NexGen Health Ltd.

Dr. Mitchell Abrams is a Canadian Radiologist, past Department Chief of Diagnostic Imaging, and an Associate Professor at Michael G Degroote School of Medical Sciences (McMaster University).

After experiencing a remarkable journey through western healthcare as a physician, division chief and open-heart surgical patient, Abrams began travelling to India. There he studied the intersection of science and spirituality, and holistic models of health encompassing Mind, Body and Spirit. Blending the best of western modern medical science and ancient eastern spiritual wisdom, Abrams provides health practitioners with a new framework for understanding energy as it relates to the art and science of self care, patient care and community health.

Dr. Abrams is the founder of NexGenHealth, a social enterprise with a mission of creating healthy minds and thriving communities through the power of the arts and technology.

Dr. Virginie Blanchette

Université du Québec at Trois-Rivières

Dr Virginie Blanchette is the first podiatrist PhD in Québec and has been an associate professor in the podiatric medicine program at Université du Québec at Trois-Rivières since 2014. Her research specialty is prevention and management of diabetic foot ulcers and their complications, with a team approach.

Dr Blanchette holds a PhD in biomedical sciences from Université de Montréal, a doctorate in podiatric medicine (DPM), a master’s degree and bachelor’s degree in medical biology from Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières (UQTR). She develops in-hospital podiatry service and care trajectories for lower extremity wounds at Centre intégré universitaire de santé et services sociaux de la Mauricie et du Centre-du-Québec (CIUSSS-MCQ).

Additionally, Dr Blanchette contributes to medical innovation through the use of pulp and paper for antibacterial dressing. She joined the Diabetic Foot Canada Task Force in 2019 to help to prevent, manage and address the deficit in awareness, knowledge and funding of diabetes-related foot complications, preventable amputations and loss of life or people living with diabetes in Canada.

Damien Dauphinee, DPM

Damien M. Dauphinée, DPM, FACFAS, FAENS, FACCWS, CWS-P, is board certified in Foot Surgery and Reconstructive Rearfoot and Ankle Surgery by the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery. He is also board certified in Wound Management by the American Board of Wound Management. Dr. Dauphinée has a special interest in reconstructive foot and ankle surgery and trauma, as well as, peripheral nerve injuries. He is a current Fellow and served as President of the Association of Extremity Nerve Surgeons in 2009. Dr. Dauphinée serves as faculty for the AENS Fundamental and Advanced Peripheral Nerve workshops, training surgeons to treat a variety of peripheral nerve pathologies. Dr. Dauphinée completed a mini-fellowship in external fixation techniques in 2007 at the Russian ILIZAROV Scientific Centre for Restorative Traumatology and Orthopaedics (RISC-RTO) in Kurgan, Russia. In 2014 he was awarded the Jules Tinel, MD Lifetime Achievement Award by the Association of Extremity Nerve Surgeons for his contributions to peripheral nerve surgery. Dr. Dauphinée lectures nationally and internationally on the subjects of diabetic limb salvage, hyperbaric oxygen therapy for chronic wounds, and peripheral nerve pathology and treatment.

Dr. Dauphinée and his partner Raafae Hussain, DPM are the originators of The POD Doctors with Dr. Dauphinée and Dr. Hussain podcast available on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, and everywhere you get your favorite podcasts.  They provide weekly episodes on podiatric medicine and surgery, as well as, COVID-19 and other medical topics relevant to our patients.

Dr. Dauphinée is the author of the Kindle Book Saving Limbs, Saving Lives: Advanced Treatments for Preventing Amputations in Diabetic Populations which has become popular with patients and students alike.

Little Known Fact…Dr. Dauphinée played a “Cabrito Cook” in the 2013 Robert Rodriguez film “Machete Kills” with stars Danny Trejo, Jessica Alba, Lady Gaga, Sophia Vergara, Michelle Rodriquez, Mel Gibson, Carlos Estevez (Charlie Sheen), Antonio Banderas, Amber Heard, and Demian Bechir.

Mark Hinkes, DPM

Author Healthy Feet for People with Diabetes

Dr. Mark Hinkes is a Doctor of Podiatric Medicine who recently retired from clinical care after 40 years of service: 

  • 20 years in private practice in Miami, FL and 
  • 20 years at the Veterans Affairs Medical Centers in Nashville and Murfreesboro, Tennessee.

Additionally, he has been the Chairman of the Preservation Amputation Care and Treatment (PACT) Program for over a decade.

Before moving to Nashville, Dr. Hinkes was the Chief of the Podiatry Service at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Salem, Virginia. He served as National Field Advisor for Quality Assurance for Podiatric Medicine for the Veterans Administration.

H has been a consultant for hospitals, extended care facilities, and corporations. He has served on multiple hospital committees, lectured nationally and internationally for community groups and schools, and has published peer-reviewed journal articles.

Dr. Hinkes is the author of two books on diabetic foot health, Keep The Legs You Stand On, and Healthy Feet for People with Diabetes.

Johnny Lau, MD​

University of Toronto Division of Orthopaedic Surgery

Dr. Johnny Lau is an Assistant Professor at the University of Toronto, and full-time staff in the Division of Orthopaedic Surgery at University Health Network – Toronto Western Division.  His elective practice is completely devoted to foot and ankle reconstructive surgery, and he instructs medical students, residents, and fellows in this field.
 
He has published numerous peer-reviewed articles, and book chapters.  His clinical and research interests include complex foot and ankle reconstruction, cartilage preservation, and clinical outcomes research.  He has previously been awarded $110,000 in peer-reviewed research grants for the following clinical trials: a randomized clinical trial for fusion vs. replacement for hallux rigidus (PSI, AOFAS, U of T Zimmer Research Fund), and a clinical trial evaluating distraction ankle arthroplasty.  In 2007, he was a co-author of the best clinical paper awarded the Roger A. Mann Research Award at the American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society.  In 2008, he was appointed the Chair of the Ankle Arthritis Guideline Workgroup by the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgery Evidence-Based Practice Committee, which was an international initiative to establish treatment guidelines for ankle arthritis based on best clinical evidence.
 
He is fellowship coordinator of the University of Toronto Foot and Ankle Fellowship program and co-ordinates the national foot and ankle review course for the final year residents in Calgary annually.  He is the co-chair of the University of Toronto Biennual Foot and Ankle Symposium in Toronto.  He has instructed colleagues, and fellows nationally and internationally.
 
He has previously served as the President of the Canadian Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society Research Co-ordinator for the Canadian Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society, on the Evidence-Based Medicine committee for the American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society, and the Editor-in-Chief for Orthopaedia, Foot/Ankle Section.  He has served as an Associate Editor for the Canadian Journal of Surgery, Journal of Rheumatology, Journal of Bone Joint Surgery (American Edition), and Foot and Ankle International.
 
He is the Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Consultant for the Toronto Argonauts Football Club (Canadian Foot League), Toronto Football Club (Major League Soccer), Toronto Blue Jays (Major League Baseball), Toronto Raptors (National Basketball Association), Toronto Maple Leafs (National Hockey League), National Hockey League Player’s Association, and the David L. MacIntosh Sports Medicine Clinic and Varsity Blues Intercollegiate Athletics Program University of Toronto.

Dr. Charles Lynde

MD, FRCPC, DABD, FCDA Dermatologist

Dr. Charles Lynde is an Associate Professor in the Department of Medicine at the University of Toronto and holds a clinical teaching position at the University Health Network. He is the Medical Director of Lynde Institute for Dermatology and Lynderm Research, a full service, interdisciplinary dermatology clinic.

After receiving his B.Sc. and MD, degrees at the University of Toronto, Dr. Lynde studied Dermatology at the University of British Columbia and the University of Toronto, receiving his Board Certification (Canada and USA) in 1983.

Lynderm Research is under the guidance of Dr. Lynde as principal investigator for more than 30 years and over 300 clinical trials and is actively involved in the management of psoriasis, rosacea, onychomycosis, acne and atopic dermatitis among other dermatological conditions. Dr. Lynde has authored over 200 peer-reviewed articles.

Dr. Lynde has served in various roles for the CDA and AAD, including President of the Canadian Dermatology Association. He is the Editor of the CDA eBulletin and sits on the editorial boards of several journals and provides extensive consulting as well as being on the advisory boards of many pharmaceutical companies. Dr. Lynde is a frequent guest speaker both nationally and internationally at various dermatological conferences. Recognizing the need for external education he is committed to the training of new and current healthcare professionals in his community and residents through the university program.

Jay McGrory, PhD

Clinical Psychologist, Schnayer, McGrory & Associates, Clinical & Consulting Psychologists

Dr. McGrory graduated with his Ph.D. in Psychology from the University of Toronto (1991).  He has been licensed by the College of Psychologists of Ontario since 1991 and is a member of the Ontario Psychological Association and the Canadian Register of Health Service Providers in Psychology.  Dr. McGrory has maintained a full time private practice since 1996. 

Dr. McGrory’s practice focuses on clinical assessment and intervention.  He works extensively with police and is contracted directly by Windsor and Lasalle Police Services and the Ontario Provincial Police.  Dr. McGrory also conducts Court assessments for child welfare agencies and forensic/correctional assessments.  He has been deemed an expert witness in both the Ontario Court of Justice and the Superior Court of Justice.  A large part of Dr. McGrory’s practice centers on the provision of Independent Psychological Examinations within the context of the Statutory Accident Benefits Schedule.  Dr. McGrory also works with athletes and is the Team Psychologist for the Ontario Hockey League Windsor Spitfires and consults with the NHL/NHLPA Substance Abuse and Mental Health Program.

Dr. Anthony Mollica

Ascension St. John Hospital

Dr. Anthony Mollica has been a staff Foot and Ankle Surgeon at Ascension St. John Hospital in Detroit Michigan since 2019. He uses an individualized, patient-centered approach and tailors specific treatments to their needs.

Dr. Mollica is trained in total ankle replacements and is proficient with revision surgery involving implants. He utilizes the latest techniques in minimally invasive Arthroscopic treatment for ankle pathology. Additionally, he is adept at all aspects of forefoot surgery and has extensive expertise in treating severe bunions, hammertoes, and other forefoot deformities.

Dr. Mollica has a special interest in foot and ankle reconstruction of complex deformities such as Diabetic Charcot deformity, flat feet, and high arched feet. He is proficient with foot and ankle trauma such as ankle fractures and Lisfranc fractures.

Born in Vancouver, Canada, Dr. Mollica was a Physics major at the University of British Columbia (undergraduate) before graduating from the Arizona School of Podiatric Medicine. He completed a reconstructive foot and ankle residency at Ascension St. John Hospital as chief resident. He has extensive experience in diabetic wound care and limb salvage, applying modern, leading-edge wound care modalities in the treatment of high-risk patients with complex wounds.

Howard Penn, DPM

Advanced Podiatry Services

Dr Howard Penn currently practices podiatric medicine and surgery in Buffalo, New York for the past 32 years. He is board certified in foot surgery by the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons. Shockwave therapy has been a very effective treatment modality in his practice for the past 20 years for a variety of musculoskeletal ailments. Dr. Penn has been using the Electro Medical Swiss Dolorclast system for the past 13 years and received his training in Germany with orthopaedic surgeons for all musculoskeletal indications. He has been a frequent lecturer both nationally and internationally over the past several years sharing his expertise in shockwave therapy as well as training physicians in workshops.

Howard Petroff, MD

Asst Medical Director, Toronto Raptors

Dr. Petroff works as a community-based Family Physician in Pickering, Ontario. He was the founding physician of the West Durham Family Health Team and served as the Lead Physician until a couple of years ago.

In addition, Dr. Petroff has been the Assistant Medical Director for the Toronto Raptors Basketball Club since 2004. In that role he is responsible for the general medical care of the athletes, the preparticipation medical evaluations, and the coordination of clinical testing. He is also a member of the Cardiac Advisory Committee for the National Basketball Association. Throughout the COVID pandemic, Dr. Petroff has worked with Raptors staff and management with the integration and implementation of the NBA’s Health and Safety protocols.

Dr. Petroff has previously served as the Chief of Family Practice at the Rouge Valley Health System. In addition, Dr. Petroff was also an active Emergency Room Physician at Mount Sinai Hospital in Toronto until 2014.

Dr. Petroff attended the University of Western Ontario for his undergraduate education and returned to Toronto to attend the University of Toronto Medical School from which he graduated from in 1987. Subsequently, he completed both his Family Medicine Residency and his additional training in Emergency Medicine at the U of T. Dr. Petroff is both a Certificant and a Fellow of the College of Family Physicians of Canada.

Michael Theodoulou, DPM

Chief, Division of Podiatric Surgery at Cambridge Health Alliance

Dr. Theodoulou is currently Division Chief of Podiatric Surgery at Cambridge Health Hospital. He is an instructor of surgery at Harvard Medical School. He is section editor of adult forefoot reconstructive surgery Journal of Foot and Ankle Surgery. He is double board certified by the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery and the American Board of Podiatric Medicine. He serves as a residency site reviewer for CPME. He is a board reviewer for ABFAS. He is past president of the Massachusetts Foot and Ankle Society and is current vice president of the Northeast Division ACFAS.
