Virtual Care / Telehealth

Receipts: we should be able to identify ‘office visits’ separately from ‘virtual visits’ or telehealth. Some of our podiatrists have done this for years without problems for the patients getting reimbursed.

Potential Telehealth Services: There are a number of services that can be provided virtually and consistent with the regulations form our colleges. These could include:

Podiatrists can diagnose and provide a comprehensive treatment plan for many lower extremity conditions including:

  • Plantar fasciitis
  • Tendonitis
  • Heel pain
  • Arthritis
  • Gout
  • Heel pain
  • Fractures
  • Ankle sprains
  • Other aches and pains of the feet and ankles
  • Running and other sport injuries
  • Fungal toenails
  • Toe pain

In addition, routinely and especially in the acute COVID-19 setting, we can cover other issues such as:

  • Acute and chronic wound management (inspecting through video)
  • Vascular compromise
  • General consultations
  • Pre/Post-Op visits
  • Shoe recommendations
  • Best prefabricated orthotics or OTC padding for your particular foot or condition
  • Appropriate stretching and strengthening plans for specific conditions (exercise prescription)
  • Scheduling for office-based consultation on an emergency basis and again routinely once directed by local Provincial authority
  • Return to activity plans

Our podiatrists can contribute to the overall health of plan members (patients). By triaging patients and keeping them out of hospitals, family medicine clinics, and emergency rooms — locations with possible exposure to pathogens (like COVID-19).
